As Vice President Biden’s lead in national polling nears an average of 10%, the president’s chances in 2020 are looking increasingly poor. Combined with multiple losses in the Supreme Court and the damning revelations of former National Security Adviser John Bolton’s memoir, this has not been a good week for Donald Trump.
Although it is unlikely that Bolton’s book or his niece - Mary Trump’s - reveal-all memoir (set to be published next week) will dent the support of his base, there is a growing collection of evidence to turn off the moderate Republicans Trump so desperately needs to win. His campaign will be especially worried about his poor numbers in the states of Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania. Biden is up by more than 5 points in each of these states which, in 2016, voted for Trump, paving the way for Clinton’s loss.
Trump’s bad week got even worse on Saturday as his first post-COVID campaign rally in Tulsa, Oklahoma failed to draw the expected crowds. It is reported that his campaign manager, Brad Parscale, is facing fury from his boss after the embarrassment of having to cancel a planned address to an overflow crowd due to poor attendance.
While most of these events will be forgotten by the time voters reach the polls in November, it is clear that Trump’s campaign is not heading in a winning direction early in this election season,
