Belgium bans the hijab

IntersectNews team

In June 2020, the Belgium government ruled that prohibiting religious symbols is legal under higher education institutions. Hence, the banning of the hijabs in universities.

Brussels, Germany was the center of the protests. Thousands took action in protesting against

the ban. #HijabisFightBack became a popular hashtag throughout social media.

The legislators that made this ban claimed that they are “liberating” women. In truth, the hijab is a religious choice that muslim women make often as a celebration and loyalty to faith. This ban goes against religious freedoms in human rights.
