A joint investigation by the Mirror and Guardian showed that Boris Johnson’s chief aide Dominic Cummings drove across the country to visit his parents and later went on a 50-mile round trip to Barnard Castle.
A clearer violation of “stay at home” there could not be.
Some conservatives defend Cummings, claiming the couple had fears over childcare for their four-year-old son. Johnson is trying to shame us into accepting Cummings’ innocence through the heroic “parental instinct” shown. Brilliantly manipulative. A trip to Barnard Castle for his wife’s birthday is yet to be adequately explained, being dismissed as an ‘eye test’.
This has caused two thirds of respondents to a recent poll to express that Cummings’ actions have made them less likely to follow lockdown. Public faith in Johnson’s government in collapsing.
Dominic Cummings was allowed into Downing Street for one reason - to win the election - a task he succeeded at brilliantly. Since, he seems to have lost his touch, obstructing attempts to govern. The daily briefings have become a bizarre ritual. The Tory MPs calling for his resignation have made him an electoral liability.
The truth is every day that Cummings remains is one day closer to Keir Starmer replacing his boss.
