Taking advantage of the ongoing Yemen conflict, the UAE is attempting to occupy part of Yemen’s
land. The conflict is complicated, but this occupation is quite simple.
The UAE is known for building commercial ports and military bases around East Africa that are not
approved by the African countries. So, it is not a surprise that UAE is occupying Socotra, a Yemeni
Island.
Socotra is known for being a UNESCO world heritage site and is close to major shipping routes. It's
basically geopolitical and economic gold. Thus, the sending of Emirati troops to Socotra.
Although this occupation is completely illegal, Yemen cannot fight them off due to the conflict. The
UAE might argue that they have not attacked Socotra but in fact provided the relief. But in truth,
having excessive Emirati troops existent in Socotra allows more illegitimate military to enter the
island, creating potential aggression and war.
