HOW TRUMP IS TRYING TO BANKRUPT THE USPS

In 2006, the Republican-led congress party passed a law forcing the US Postal Service to prepay its pensions for 75 years. No other corporation does this, and it’s prevented the US Postal Service from turning into a profit.

The US Postal Service is efficient and a path to security for BIPOC. It’s the only mailing service that delivers to every address in America for drastically cheaper prices compared to companies like FedEx and UPS. The agency is profitable and billionaires have been trying to privatise it for 30 years.

The coronavirus pandemic has put incredible strain on the agency, leading to the appointment of a new head, Louis DeJoy, a top donor to Donald Trump, who was in charge of fundraising for the Republican National Convention. Upon appointment, he demanded that employees leave mail behind that could slow them down on delivery journeys, parked no more than four times on their mail paths, and limited overtime. His loyalty to Trump has led to speculation that DeJoy could help interfere in the upcoming election by limiting the agency’s reach to rural areas who rely on the mail to vote.

Ways to help save the USPS are in our bio!
