John Bolton has written a tell-all memoir about his time working as National Security advisor in the Trump White House. Leaked extracts from his book, published in the New York Times among others, show a President second-guessing his allies, ignorant of basic geographic fact (going so far as to think Finland is a part of Russia) and without a coherent foreign policy. Furthermore, Bolton confirms Trump tried to solicit Ukrainian help for his 2020 campaign and even alleges he did the same with other world leaders – including China’s Xi Jinping.
The book is scheduled to be released in a matter of days. The Trump Whitehouse has resorted to desperate – and belated – legal manoeuvring to try to prevent the book’s release. According to the Financial Times, a federal judge expressed “scepticism” that it was even possible at this point to get ahead of the book’s release.
Bolton refused to cooperate during the House Impeachment probe last autumn, which has lead Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff to blast Bolton for his “sheer nerve”. Senior House Democrats are rumoured to be considering subpoenaing Bolton to testify about the book’s contents.
