The British police have a new suspect for the disappearance of 3-year-old ‘Maddie’ McCann, in Portugal, 2007. The 43-year-old german man is currently serving a long prison sentence for unrelated crimes.
The suspect, Christian B, previously convicted for sexually abusing children, was living in Algarve, Southern Portugal, near the area where Madeleine went missing during her holiday 13 years ago.
Authorities in Germany, Portugal and the UK have been working together in secret, since the 10 year anniversary of McCann’s disappearance, when they received a tip-off from a friend of Christian B, who got suspicious after hearing a “disturbing comment” from Christian, whilst watching TV news coverage of the case.
The man lived in the south of Portugal between 1995 and 2007, later being deported to Germany on drug related charges, where he was additionally convicted of the rape of a 72-year-old woman which took place in Praia da Luz, in 2005.
The police linked two vehicles to the suspect, one of which originally under Christian B’s name. The day after McCann’s disappearance, the car was re-registered to someone else in Germany.
UK authorities are offering a £20,000 reward for information leading to the conviction of those responsible.
