Marjorie Taylor Greene: Conspiracist in Congress

Cori Bush, Missouri’s first Black Congresswoman, has announced she is moving her Capitol-based office for ‘safety reasons’ after being ‘berated by a maskless’ Majorie Taylor Greene and her staff. Among other accusations, Greene attacked Bush for running a Black Lives Matter campaign group, calling her ‘the leader of a terrorist mob’.

Greene is known for supporting a long list of controversies, including the antisemitic QAnon conspiracy, which involves the belief that Hilary Clinton and Joe Biden, among others, lead high-profile child mutilation and paedophilia ring.

She has also:

  • Repeatedly claimed that multiple school shootings were staged by the Democrat opposition

  • ‘Liked’ many comments on her posts which called for the murder or assault of Democrat politicians, including one which called for a ‘bullet to the head’ to remove Nancy Pelosi, House Speaker

  • Accused black people of being ‘held slaves’ to the Democratic party

  • Dismissed claims of racism by stating that white men are the most discriminated against group in the US

  • Harassed the survivor of the Parkland mass school shooting, who was campaigning for gun control, by chasing and repeatedly asking why he wanted to ‘steal’ her firearms and accused him of ‘using the kids’ as an excuse for gun control.

  • Blamed the California wildfires on “Jewish space lasers” (yes, really)

Above was just a few from the list of conspiracy theories that Greene not only subscribes to but actively and aggressively promotes in Congress and via social media.

Greene embodies modern, alt-right, Trumpian politics, and the shell-shocking derealisation that comes with them, only furthered by her continuous support of baseless and divisive conspiracy theories.

Four years ago the idea that a member elected into one of the most powerful legislations being so openly racist and sexist, viciously attacking her opponents, colleagues and groups of citizens she is supposed to represent, would have been unthinkable.

President Biden plans to ‘reach across the aisle’, but Greene seems determined to widen the gulf.
