At least two people have been killed and 20 have been injured after police forces used live ammunition at demonstrators in Mandalay. A young man and a teenage boy were reported killed after police forces, backed by troops, open fired at protestors opposing the recent military coup at the city's shipyard.
Some protestors throw catapults at the police who responded with tear gas and gunfire, according to witnesses. There have also been reports of police shooting tear gas into houses and shooting at ambulances when medical volunteers attempted to help injured protestors.
On Sunday, a funeral was held for the woman who died last week after police shot her head during protests in the capital, Nay Pyi Taw. While the police deny using lethal force rights groups have said her injuries were consistent with a gunshot.
For the past week, the military has shut down the internet every night leading to widespread concerns. Campaigners, activists, journalists and protesting civil servants live in fear of being taken away during night-raids.
