TW: This article talks about sex trafficking and r*pe
With the rise of the internet, everything is more accessible- including porn.
With the accessibility of porn increasing, it is becoming more unregulated. Popular sites such as Pornhub regularly fail to moderate their content and have no protocols against videos affiliated with horrors such as r*pe, sex trafficking and child abuse.
The founder of Exodus Cry, a group which targets sex trafficking, Laila Mickelwait claims “this is a company that is generating millions in advertising and membership revenue and yet they do not have an effective system in place to verify reliably the age or consent of those featured in the pornographic content it hosts”.
Although Pornhub denies allegations, the evidence is against them: A missing 15-year-old girl was found after nearly 60 videos of her assault were posted on the site. A First Nations woman from Ohio sent Pornhub pleading emails for six months, asking for videos of her underage r*pe to be removed, only being removed when she posed as a lawyer. The Internet Watch Foundation has confirmed at least 118 cases of child abuse on the site.
Pornhub has furthermore defended categories such as “drunk” and “teen”, claiming they are protected by “various freedom of speech laws”. This is disgusting.
