Boris Johnson appeared to be unable to remember his own government’s figures at Wednesday’s PMQs.
He accused the opposition leader of trying to mislead the House with the fact that 33,000 people have Covid-19 while the ‘track, trace and isolate figures show that just over 10,000 people were reached and asked to provide contact details.’ The PM denied this, saying that ‘33,000 was an estimate’ until Starmer reminded him that it was from previous government figures.
Starmer also commented that the “Prime Minister should welcome the challenge” to his policy when 85,000 people have died. The world beating system that he promised is not working. Relying on people to be able to remember everyone that they have come into contact with is not enough- people must be shown clear guidelines about what they can and can’t do, something the government has failed to do for the last six weeks.
Johnson seemed to be a blundering fool compared to Starmer’s collected attitude. It is unclear how much longer it will be until there are calls for Starmer to replace him in number ten- will Boris be able to keep it together to lead the country through the crisis or will his popularity drop even further as it becomes more evident he is unfit for the job?
