For decades, Darfur, Sudan has struggled to maintain peace. Instead of being a supposed utopia, Darfur has suffered endlessly after the discovery of oil. Sudanese Arabs started kicking out tribal Sudanese people from their homeland to make use of these new resources. During this conflict, an estimated 300,000 people were killed and 2.7 million others forced from their homes, according to the UN. However, that bloodshed was merely the start of the terrors.
In the present day, the topic of the conflict between the Arab and tribal Sudanese is no longer the main issue. Currently the Sudanese militia have been wiping out Darfuris. The military has been kidnapping, raping, slaughtering and burning Darfur villages constantly. Yet the Sudanese government claims that there is “less violence”. Thousands have protested against this atrocity, only to be met with tear gas and bullets.
To this day, these actions are still being carried out. Media coverage isn’t dominating this issue. It’s up to you to share and educate people on this matter.
