The Russia Report

According to the Russia Report, the Uk underestimated the threat Russia posed to the country.

The report goes into great detail about the different threats posed to the UK by Russia. These include disinformation, Cyber crime, and interference in democratic process, in the UK and abroad. To summarise, Russia is a ‘highly capable cyber actor’, that ‘sought to employ crime thorough cyber skills’, and promoted disinformation, mainly to show direct support of a pro-Russia narrative and have citizens question the media. In addition, Russia is thought to have influenced both the Scottish Referendum in 2014, as well as the EU referendum. The report states that the government was made aware of the threat, but actively ‘avoided looking for evidence’.

The report goes on to recommend new legislation against foreign agents, which is being considered, and say that the UK was slow to understand the Russian threat because of anti-terrorism. The UK greatly underestimated the threat due to many different reasons, including that Russian money has a staggering influence on British life, contributing to many different sectors.

The repost goes into many other details about the threat Russia poses to this country, and may have huge political implications in how Britain has dealt with the threat in past months, as well as how they will deal with it in the coming months.
