Trump: his (first) four years in office

Regardless of the outcome of the election, and all the events that will follow, here is some of what Trump has achieved over the first (and possibly only) term of his presidency:

  • Meeting with North Korean leader, Kim Jong Un

  • Signed $738bn Space Force which is programme to protect the US’ military assets in space

  • Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (an act that cut taxes for most Americans, particularly those residing in low-tax states, but led to higher wage earners in high-tax states often having a higher overall tax burden)

  • First Step Act: one of the biggest recent steps towards reforming the criminal justice system and the bill passed with overwhelming bipartisan support in Congress

  • 56% of Americans who took part in Gallup’s survey say they are better off economically since Trump took office

  • Signed the Hong Kong Human Rights and Democracy Act

True to his word, Trump has fulfilled many of his election promises- many of his supporters say “promises made, promises kept.” He has started building a wall and has strengthened the economy (pre-pandemic).

Arguably, for some, Trump has ‘made America great again’ - or has at least made a very pronounced start. His electoral base will continue to attribute some of the best political years to President Trump, regardless of how (in Mr. Trump’s words) ‘politically correct’ people and the ‘fake’ media may see them.

In spite of all the controversy that has surrounded Trump’s presidency, there are some notable “wins” Trump and his supporters will be able to point to. Such “wins” may well be the reason he is possibly re-elected.
