President Trump has once again put his political agenda before science as he holds a large indoor rally Sunday night in Henderson, NV, which involved no social distancing, even as coronavirus claims over 194,000 lives American lives.
In defiance of the state’s ban on local gatherings of 50 people or more, the event did not only threaten the safety of those present, but has been declared a super spreader event by scientific sources
The statement from the Trump campaign in regards to the rally reads: “If you can join tens of thousands of people protesting in the streets, gamble in a casino, or burn down small businesses in riots, you can gather peacefully under the 1st Amendment to hear from the President of the United States”.
Three months ago, Trump held his last indoor rally in Tulsa, after which the city saw a surge in cases and both campaign staffers and Secret Service agents alike tested positive for the disease.
Many major television networks, including CNN, decided not to send crews and correspondents to the event for their own safety. It isn’t rare for media companies to protect their employees in war zones abroad, but such precautions are remarkable on home soil.
The indoor event clashed with footage from the NFL games that went ahead in empty stadiums, showing starkly the President standing against the masses at a time where most would expect him to lead by example. Trump is possibly responsible for the most dangerous breaches of his own government’s coronavirus recommendations
It has been stated by a US Doctor that the rally shows a ‘callous disregard for human life’. This development comes as Trump relishes his role as a divider as he vows to be ‘vicious’.
As of the 13th September, the national average shows Biden beating the incumbent president at 51% of the vote.
