The US president Donald Trump and First Lady of the US have tested positive for the COVID 19. On Thursday, the couple began self-isolation following positive test results of one of Trump's aides, Hope Hicks. Soon after the announcement, they too received positive results.
Trump has faced criticism for attending a fundraiser in New Jersey on Thursday, apparently after officials knew of Ms Hicks' symptoms. It is still unclear how Trump's results will affect the second presidential debate scheduled for October 15 in Miami, Florida.
Trump has repeatedly pictured not wearing masks or following social distancing norms with close aides. Given his age, he is in the high-risk category for complications from the virus. The White House has released a statement saying he is suffering only mild symptoms and continues to work, but the positive result has put a hold on his aggressive campaign plans.
Last week Trump said that the virus “affects virtually nobody” even as it took the lives of 209,000 American nobodies. Trump's results most likely affected his followers who believed the virus was fake more than the president himself.
