UK reveals Russia tried to interfere with 2019 election

The foreign secretary has revealed that Russia tried to interfere in the December 2019 election. This was done by spreading documents on UK-US trade discussions, which were used by Labour.

Reddit claimed that the leaked documents that Jeremy Corbyn referenced were linked to the Russian campaign in which he claimed were part of secret talks to sell off the NHS in an US-UK trade deal. Labour refused to say where they got the documents, which has led to an investigation from intelligence services into how Jeremy Cordyn obtained official emails he claims shows the NHS link into trade deals.

A report into allegations of Russian interference is due in the Russia report, which Boris Johnson blocked from being released nine months ago. This was launched after the Salisbury poisoning, and will be made public in coming weeks.

Labour has said that they would work ‘cross-party’ to protect national security.

It is clear what a threat any interference into our democracy could be, especially in general elections, and the Russia report will be gladly received.
