W.H.O isn't enough for the Trump Administration?

Updated: Jul 13, 2020

The Trump administration has formally notified the United Nations that the US is withdrawing from the World Health Organisation.

Trump made the threat late May, accusing WHO of being under China’s control. They made requests for reforms which were not acted on which caused the US to withdraw, according to a senior US administration official.

The withdrawal of the US could have huge consequences on WHO owing to the $400m it gave in 2019 which attributed to 15% of its total budget. After a year and outstanding fees are paid, the US can leave.

Biden has already stated he would rejoin ‘On [his] first day as President’. Democrats, Republicans and experts alike have implored him not to make the move, partly due to increasing coronavirus cases. Despite this, Trump said that the US is going to be “in very good shape” in a few weeks, although they have broken another daily record for cases (60,000) and over 130,000 Americans have died.

With the withdrawal now pending and cases rising high, it is once again clear to see how delusional and dangerous Trump can be. Come November, it will be revealing watching WHO really votes for Trump.
