Gitanjali Rao is Time Magazine’s 2020 ‘Kid of the Year’. The 15 year old has made more progress than one might think. At only 10 years old, Rao had developed an interest in the Flint Water Crisis, and to help, she invented a machine that could measure water quality and send the data through Bluetooth. Rao won the Discovery Education 3M Young Scientist Challenge for this invention, known as Tethys.
Her newest invention, the one that led to her Forbes award, is Kindly, available as an app as well as a Chrome extension helps children navigate cyberbullying. Kindly observes each word typed on your device and suggests alternatives if it detects potentially harmful words. Kindly is Rao’s way of bringing a little kindness into this world. We could all do with being a little kinder, both in real life and online.
